Zinnat 250 mg is an oral antibiotic medication containing the active ingredient Cefuroxime (250 mg) as cefuroxime axetil. It belongs to the second-generation cephalosporin class of antibiotics. It is used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections, including those of the upper and lower respiratory tract, urinary tract, and skin and soft tissues.

As a cephalosporin, it works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. By binding to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located inside the bacterial cell wall, the medication prevents the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis. This leads to the interruption of cell wall assembly, causing the bacteria to swell and eventually burst (lysis), effectively clearing the infection from the body.
