Biocine is an oral antibiotic medication containing the active ingredient Lincomycin (500 mg). It belongs to the lincosamide class of antibiotics. It is primarily used to treat serious bacterial infections caused by susceptible Gram-positive organisms (such as staphylococci and streptococci) in patients who are allergic to penicillin or when other antibiotics have proven ineffective. It is particularly valued for its ability to penetrate bone tissue.
As a lincosamide, it works by binding to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome.
