Aquaclav Suspension is a combination oral antibiotic containing two active ingredients: Amoxicillin (200 mg) and Clavulanic Acid (28.5 mg) per 5 ml dose (totaling 228.5 mg). It belongs to a class of drugs known as penicillin-type antibiotics combined with a beta-lactamase inhibitor. It is primarily used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections in children, including middle ear infections (otitis media), sinusitis, throat infections, and respiratory tract infections.
This medication works through a dual-action mechanism:
Amoxicillin stops the growth of bacteria by preventing them from forming their cell walls.
Clavulanic Acid blocks the enzymes (beta-lactamases) produced by certain resistant bacteria that would otherwise destroy the amoxicillin.
By adding clavulanic acid, the antibiotic becomes effective against a broader range of bacteria that are typically resistant to amoxicillin alone.
